1To the leader, of David, a psalm.
2Waiting I waited for YHWH, and he inclined to me and heard my cry.
3And he brought me up from the pit of roaring, from the miry clay; and he set my feet upon a rock, he established my steps.
4And he put in my mouth a new song, a praise to our God; many will see and fear, and will trust in YHWH.
5Blessed is the man who has set YHWH as his trust, and has not turned to the proud, and to those who fall away to falsehood.
6Many things you have done, you YHWH my God—your wonders and your thoughts toward us; there is none to set in order before you. Were I to declare and speak, they are too many to be counted.
7Sacrifice and offering you did not desire; ears you have dug for me; burnt offering and sin offering you did not ask.
8Then I said, "Behold, I have come; in the scroll of the book it is written concerning me.
9To do your will, my God, I delight; and your Torah is within my inward parts."
10I have proclaimed glad tidings of righteousness in the great assembly; behold, my lips I do not restrain; YHWH, you know.
11Your righteousness I have not hidden within my heart; your faithfulness and your deliverance I have told; I have not concealed your lovingkindness and your truth from the great assembly.
12You, YHWH, will not withhold your compassions from me; your lovingkindness and your truth continually will preserve me.
13For evils have encompassed me beyond number; my iniquities have overtaken me, and I am not able to see; they are more than the hairs of my head, and my heart has forsaken me.
14Be pleased, YHWH, to deliver me; YHWH, hasten to my help.
15Let them be ashamed and confounded together, those who seek my soul (nephesh) to sweep it away; let them be turned backward and humiliated, those who delight in my hurt.
16Let them be desolate as a reward of their shame, those who say to me, "Aha, aha."
17Let all those who seek you rejoice and be glad in you; let those who love your deliverance say continually, "YHWH be magnified."
18But I am poor and needy; my Lord (Adonai) thinks of me. You are my help and my deliverer; my God, do not delay.
