Upon my bed in the nights I sought him whom my soul (nephesh) loves; I sought him, but I did not find him.
"I will rise now and go about in the city, in the streets and in the squares; I will seek him whom my soul (nephesh) loves." I sought him, but I did not find him.
The watchmen who go about the city found me: "Him whom my soul (nephesh) loves, have you seen?"
Scarcely had I passed from them, until I found him whom my soul (nephesh) loves; I held him and would not let him go, until I had brought him to the house of my mother, and to the chamber of her who conceived me.
I adjure you, daughters of Jerusalem, by the gazelles or by the hinds of the field, that you not awaken nor stir up love until it pleases.
Who is this coming up from the wilderness like columns of smoke, perfumed with myrrh and frankincense, from all the powders of the merchant?
Behold, the couch of Solomon; sixty mighty men are around it, of the mighty men of Israel.
All of them holding the sword, trained for war; each man (ish) his sword upon his thigh, because of dread in the nights.
A palanquin king Solomon made for himself from the wood of Lebanon.
Its pillars he made of silver, its support of gold, its seat of purple, its midst inlaid with love, from the daughters of Jerusalem.
Go out and see, daughters of Zion, king Solomon with the crown with which his mother crowned him on the day of his wedding, and on the day of the gladness of his heart.
