And Moab rebelled against Israel after the death of Ahab.
And Ahaziah fell through the lattice in his upper chamber that was in Samaria, and he became sick; and he sent messengers, and said to them, "Go, inquire of Baal-zebub the god of Ekron whether I shall recover from this sickness."
And a messenger of YHWH spoke to Elijah the Tishbite, "Arise, go up to meet the messengers of the king of Samaria, and speak to them, 'Is it because there is no God in Israel that you are going to inquire of Baal-zebub the god of Ekron?
And therefore thus says YHWH: The bed where you have gone up, you shall not come down from it, for you shall surely die.'" And Elijah departed.
And the messengers returned to him, and he said to them, "Why is it that you have returned?"
And they said to him, "A man (ish) came up to meet us, and said to us, 'Go, return to the king who sent you, and speak to him: Thus says YHWH, Is it because there is no God in Israel that you are sending to inquire of Baal-zebub the god of Ekron? Therefore the bed where you have gone up, you shall not come down from it, for you shall surely die.'"
And he spoke to them, "What was the judgment (mishpat) of the man (ish) who came up to meet you and spoke to you these words?"
And they said to him, "A man (ish), an owner of hair, and girded with a girdle of leather about his loins." And he said, "It is Elijah the Tishbite."
And he sent to him a captain of fifty with his fifty. And he went up to him, and behold, he was sitting on the top of the hill. And he spoke to him, "Man (ish) of God, the king has spoken: Come down."
And Elijah answered and spoke to the captain of fifty, "And if I am a man (ish) of God, let fire come down from the heavens and consume you and your fifty." And fire came down from the heavens and consumed him and his fifty.
And he returned and sent to him another captain of fifty with his fifty. And he answered and spoke to him, "Man (ish) of God, thus says the king: Come down quickly."
And Elijah answered and spoke to them, "If I am a man (ish) of God, let fire come down from the heavens and consume you and your fifty." And the fire of God came down from the heavens and consumed him and his fifty.
And he returned and sent a captain of a third fifty with his fifty. And the third captain of fifty went up and came and bowed on his knees before Elijah, and made supplication to him, and spoke to him, "Man (ish) of God, let my soul (nephesh) now be precious in your eyes, and the soul (nephesh) of these fifty your servants.
Behold, fire came down from the heavens and consumed the two former captains of fifty and their fifties; but now let my soul (nephesh) be precious in your eyes."
And the messenger of YHWH spoke to Elijah, "Go down with him; do not be afraid before him." And he arose and went down with him to the king.
And he spoke to him, "Thus says YHWH: Because you have sent messengers to inquire of Baal-zebub the god of Ekron — is it because there is no God in Israel to inquire of His word? — therefore the bed where you have gone up, you shall not come down from it, for you shall surely die."
And he died according to the word of YHWH which Elijah had spoken. And Jehoram reigned in his stead in the second year of Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, because he had no son.
And the rest of the acts of Ahaziah which he did, are they not written upon the book of the words of the days of the kings of Israel?
