1And Solomon counted seventy thousand men (ish) bearing burdens, and eighty thousand men (ish) hewing in the mountain, and overseers over them, three thousand and six hundred.
2And Solomon sent to Huram king of Tyre, saying, "As you did with David my father, and sent to him cedars to build for himself a house to dwell in it, so do with me.
3Behold, I am building a house for the name of YHWH my God, to sanctify it to him, to burn before him incense of spices, and a continual arrangement, and burnt offerings at the morning and at the evening, on the Shabbat and on the new moons and on the appointed times (moadim) of YHWH our God; this is upon Israel forever.
4And the house that I am building is great; for great is our God above all gods.
5And who retains strength to build for him a house, for the heavens and the heavens of the heavens cannot contain him? And who am I that I should build for him a house, except to burn incense before him?
6And now send to me a man (ish) wise to work in gold, and in silver, and in bronze, and in iron, and in purple and crimson and blue, and knowing to engrave engravings, with the wise men that are with me in Judah and in Jerusalem, whom David my father provided.
7And send to me cedar trees, cypresses, and algum trees from Lebanon; for I know that your servants know to cut the trees of Lebanon; and behold, my servants are with your servants,
8even to prepare for me trees in abundance; for the house that I am building is great and wondrous.
9And behold, to the hewers, to the cutters of the trees, I have given beaten wheat to your servants, twenty thousand kors, and barley twenty thousand kors, and wine twenty thousand baths, and oil twenty thousand baths.
10And Huram king of Tyre said in writing, and sent to Solomon, "In the love of YHWH for his people he has made you king over them."
11And Huram said, "Blessed be YHWH the God of Israel, who made the heavens and the earth, who gave to David the king a wise son, knowing discretion and understanding, who will build a house for YHWH and a house for his kingdom.
12And now I have sent a wise man (ish), knowing understanding, to Huram my father,
13the son of a woman (ishah) from the daughters of Dan, and his father a man (ish) of Tyre, knowing to work in gold, and in silver, in bronze, in iron, in stones, and in timber, in purple, in blue, and in fine linen, and in crimson, and to engrave any engraving, and to devise any device that may be given to him, with your wise men and the wise men of my lord David your father.
14And now the wheat and the barley, the oil and the wine, that my lord has spoken of, let him send to his servants.
15And we will cut trees from Lebanon according to all your need, and bring them to you as rafts upon the sea to Joppa; and you shall bring them up to Jerusalem."
16And Solomon counted all the men (ish) the sojourners that were in the land of Israel, after the counting that David his father had counted them; and they were found a hundred and fifty thousand and three thousand and six hundred.
17And he made of them seventy thousand burden-bearers, and eighty thousand hewers in the mountain, and three thousand and six hundred overseers to make the people serve (avad).
