And the word of YHWH came to me in the ninth year, in the tenth month, on the tenth of the month, saying:
Son of man (adam), write for yourself the name of the day, this very day; the king of Babylon has leaned upon Jerusalem this very day.
And utter a parable to the rebellious house, and you shall say to them, Thus said my Lord (Adonai) YHWH: Set on the pot, set it on, and also pour water into it.
Gather its pieces into it, every good piece, thigh and shoulder; with choice bones fill it.
Take the choicest of the flock, and also pile the bones under it; boil it well, and let its bones also be seethed in its midst.
Therefore thus said my Lord (Adonai) YHWH: Woe to the city of bloods, the pot whose scum is in it, and whose scum has not gone out of it! Piece by piece bring it out; no lot has fallen upon it.
For her blood is in her midst; upon a bare rock she set it; she did not pour it upon the ground, to cover over it with dust (aphar).
To bring up fury, to take vengeance, I have set her blood upon a bare rock, that it should not be covered.
Therefore thus said my Lord (Adonai) YHWH: Woe to the city of bloods! I also will make the pile great.
Heap on the wood, kindle the fire, finish the flesh (basar), and spice the mixture, and let the bones be scorched.
And set it empty upon its coals, that it may be hot, and its bronze may burn, and its uncleanness be melted in its midst, its scum be consumed.
With toils she has wearied herself, yet her great scum does not go out of her; into the fire with her scum!
In your uncleanness is lewdness; because I cleansed you and you were not cleansed, you shall not be cleansed from your uncleanness any more, until I cause my fury to rest upon you.
I, YHWH, have spoken; it is coming, and I will do it; I will not refrain, and I will not spare, and I will not relent; according to your ways and according to your doings they have judged you, declares my Lord (Adonai) YHWH.
And the word of YHWH came to me, saying:
Son of man (adam), behold, I am taking from you the desire of your eyes with a blow; but you shall not mourn, and you shall not weep, and your tear shall not come.
Groan in silence; for the dead make no mourning; bind your turban upon you, and put your sandals on your feet, and do not cover over the mustache, and the bread of men (ish) do not eat.
And I spoke to the people in the morning, and my wife (ishah) died in the evening; and I did in the morning as I was commanded (tzivvah).
And the people said to me, Will you not tell us what these things are to us, that you are doing?
And I said to them, The word of YHWH came to me, saying:
Say to the house of Israel, Thus said my Lord (Adonai) YHWH: Behold, I am profaning my sanctuary, the pride of your strength, the desire of your eyes, and the compassion of your soul (nephesh); and your sons and your daughters whom you left behind shall fall by the sword.
And you shall do as I have done: over the mustache you shall not cover, and the bread of men (ish) you shall not eat.
And your turbans shall be upon your heads, and your sandals upon your feet; you shall not mourn and you shall not weep; but you shall pine away in your iniquities, and groan, each man (ish) toward his brother.
And Ezekiel shall be to you for a wonder (mofet); according to all that he has done you shall do; when it comes, you shall know that I am my Lord (Adonai) YHWH.
And you, son of man (adam), shall it not be in the day I take from them their stronghold, the joy of their beauty, the desire of their eyes, and the lifting up of their soul (nephesh), their sons and their daughters,
in that day the fugitive shall come to you, to cause your ears to hear?
In that day your mouth shall be opened with the fugitive, and you shall speak and be dumb no more; and you shall be to them for a wonder (mofet); and they shall know that I am YHWH.
