1And the word of YHWH came to me, saying:
2And you, son of man (adam), take up over Tyre a lamentation,
3and say to Tyre, that dwells at the entrances of the sea, the trader of the peoples to many isles: Thus says my Lord (Adonai) YHWH: O Tyre, you have said, I am perfect in beauty.
4In the heart of the seas are your borders; your builders perfected your beauty.
5Of cypresses from Senir they built for you all your planks; a cedar from Lebanon they took to make a mast upon you.
6Of oaks from Bashan they made your oars; your deck they made of ivory, daughter of the Ashurites, from the isles of the Kittim.
7Fine linen in embroidery from Egypt was your sail, to be for you a banner; blue and purple from the isles of Elishah was your covering.
8The inhabitants of Sidon and Arvad were rowers for you; your wise men, O Tyre, were in you, they were your pilots.
9The elders of Gebal and her wise men were in you, repairing your seams; all the ships of the sea and their mariners were in you to exchange your merchandise.
10Persia and Lud and Put were in your army, your men (ish) of war; shield and helmet they hung in you, they gave your splendor.
11The sons of Arvad and your army were upon your walls round about, and Gammadim were in your towers; their shields they hung upon your walls round about; they perfected your beauty.
12Tarshish was your merchant from the abundance of all wealth; with silver, iron, tin, and lead they gave your wares.
13Javan, Tubal, and Meshech, they were your traffickers; with the soul (nephesh) of man (adam) and vessels of bronze they gave your merchandise.
14From the house of Togarmah, horses and horsemen and mules they gave your wares.
15The sons of Dedan were your traffickers; many isles were the merchandise of your hand; horns of ivory and ebony they returned as your payment.
16Aram was your merchant from the abundance of your works; with turquoise, purple, and embroidery, and fine linen, and coral, and rubies they gave for your wares.
17Judah and the land of Israel, they were your traffickers; with wheat of Minnith and Pannag, and honey, and oil, and balm they gave your merchandise.
18Damascus was your merchant in the abundance of your works, from the abundance of all wealth, with wine of Helbon and white wool.
19And Vedan and Javan from Uzal gave for your wares; wrought iron, cassia, and calamus were in your merchandise.
20Dedan was your trafficker in garments of freedom for riding.
21Arabia and all the princes of Kedar, they were the merchants of your hand; in lambs and rams and goats, in these they were your merchants.
22The traffickers of Sheba and Raamah, they were your traffickers; with the chief of all spice, and with every precious stone, and gold they gave your wares.
23Haran and Canneh and Eden, the traffickers of Sheba, Asshur, and Chilmad, were your trafficker.
24They were your traffickers in choice garments, in wrappings of blue and embroidery, and in chests of rich apparel bound with cords and cedar-lined, in your market.
25The ships of Tarshish were your caravans for your merchandise; and you were filled and made very heavy in the heart of the seas.
26Into great waters your rowers brought you; the spirit (ruach) of the east has broken you in the heart of the seas.
27Your wealth, and your wares, your merchandise, your mariners, and your pilots, those repairing your seams, and the exchangers of your merchandise, and all your men (ish) of war who are in you, with all your company that is in the midst of you, shall fall into the heart of the seas in the day of your downfall.
28At the sound of the cry of your pilots the open lands shall shake.
29And all who handle the oar shall come down from their ships, the mariners, all the pilots of the sea; upon the land they shall stand.
30And they shall make their voice heard over you, and cry out bitterly, and cast up dust (aphar) upon their heads; in the ashes they shall roll.
31And they shall make themselves bald for you, and gird on sackcloth, and weep for you in bitterness of soul (nephesh), with bitter wailing.
32And in their wailing they shall take up over you a lamentation, and lament over you: Who is like Tyre, like her that is silenced in the midst of the sea?
33When your wares went out from the seas, you satisfied many peoples; with the abundance of your wealth and your merchandise you enriched the kings of the earth.
34Now you are broken by the seas in the depths of the waters; your merchandise and all your company have fallen in the midst of you.
35All the inhabitants of the isles are appalled at you, and their kings are horribly afraid; they are troubled in face.
36The merchants among the peoples hiss at you; you have become a terror, and you are no more, forever.
