1And you, son of man (adam), take for yourself a sharp sword; as a barber's razor you shall take it for yourself, and you shall pass it over your head and over your beard; and you shall take for yourself balances of weight and divide them.
2A third you shall burn in the fire in the midst of the city, when the days of the siege are fulfilled; and you shall take a third, you shall strike it with the sword round about it; and a third you shall scatter to the spirit (ruach), and a sword I will draw out after them.
3And you shall take from there a few in number, and bind them in your skirts.
4And from them again you shall take, and cast them into the midst of the fire, and burn them in the fire; from it a fire shall go out to all the house of Israel.
5Thus says my Lord (Adonai) YHWH: "This is Jerusalem; in the midst of the nations I have set her, and lands round about her.
6And she rebelled against my judgments (mishpat) to wickedness more than the nations, and against my statutes (chuqqot) more than the lands that are round about her; for they rejected my judgments (mishpat), and my statutes (chuqqot)—they did not walk in them.
7Therefore thus says my Lord (Adonai) YHWH: Because your tumult is more than the nations that are round about you—in my statutes (chuqqot) you did not walk, and my judgments (mishpat) you did not do; even according to the judgments (mishpat) of the nations that are round about you, you did not do—
8therefore thus says my Lord (Adonai) YHWH: Behold, I—even I—am against you, and I will do in your midst judgments (mishpat) before the eyes of the nations.
9And I will do in you what I have not done, and the like of which I will not do again, because of all your abominations.
10Therefore fathers shall eat sons in your midst, and sons shall eat their fathers; and I will execute in you judgments, and I will scatter all your remnant to every spirit (ruach).
11Therefore, as I live (chai)," declares my Lord (Adonai) YHWH, "surely, because my sanctuary you have defiled with all your detestable things and with all your abominations, I also will diminish; and my eye shall not spare, and I also will not pity.
12A third of you shall die by the pestilence and be consumed by the famine in your midst; and the third shall fall by the sword round about you; and the third I will scatter to every spirit (ruach), and a sword I will draw out after them.
13And my anger shall be completed, and I will cause my fury to rest upon them, and I will be comforted; and they shall know that I, YHWH, have spoken in my zeal, when I complete my fury upon them.
14And I will make you a ruin and a reproach among the nations that are round about you, before the eyes of all who pass by.
15And it shall be a reproach and a taunt, a chastisement and an astonishment, to the nations that are round about you, when I execute in you judgments in anger and in fury and in furious rebukes—I, YHWH, have spoken.
16When I send the evil arrows of famine against them, which are for destruction, which I will send to destroy you; and famine I will add upon you, and I will break for you the staff of bread.
17And I will send upon you famine and an evil beast (chai), and they shall bereave you; and pestilence and blood shall pass through you; and a sword I will bring upon you. I, YHWH, have spoken."
