Sing, O barren one who did not bear; break forth into singing and cry aloud, you who did not travail; for more are the children of the desolate than the children of the married woman, says YHWH.
Enlarge the place of your tent, and let them stretch out the curtains of your tabernacles (mishkan); spare not; lengthen your cords and strengthen your stakes.
For to the right and to the left you shall break forth, and your seed shall possess nations, and they shall inhabit desolate cities.
Fear not, for you shall not be ashamed; neither be confounded, for you shall not be put to shame; for the shame of your youth you shall forget, and the reproach of your widowhood you shall remember no more.
For your Maker is your husband—YHWH of hosts (tzevaot) is his name—and your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel; the God of all the earth he is called.
For like a woman (ishah) forsaken and grieved of spirit (ruach) YHWH has called you, and like a wife (ishah) of youth when she is rejected, says your God.
For a small moment I forsook you, but with great compassion I will gather you.
In an overflow of wrath I hid my face from you for a moment, but with everlasting kindness I have had compassion on you, says YHWH your Redeemer.
For this is to me as the waters of Noah, when I swore that the waters of Noah should no more pass over the earth; so I have sworn not to be wroth with you, nor to rebuke you.
For the mountains may depart and the hills be removed, but my kindness shall not depart from you, neither shall my covenant (berit) of peace be removed, says YHWH who has compassion on you.
O afflicted one, storm-tossed, not comforted, behold, I am setting your stones in antimony, and I will lay your foundations with sapphires.
And I will make your battlements of rubies, and your gates of carbuncle stones, and all your border of stones of delight.
And all your children shall be taught of YHWH, and great shall be the peace of your children.
In righteousness you shall be established; be far from oppression, for you shall not fear, and from terror, for it shall not come near to you.
Behold, they may surely gather, but not from me; whoever gathers against you shall fall because of you.
Behold, I myself have created the smith who blows the coals in the fire, and brings out a weapon for his work; and I myself have created the destroyer to ruin.
Every weapon formed against you shall not prosper, and every tongue that rises against you in judgment (mishpat) you shall condemn. This is the inheritance of the servants of YHWH, and their righteousness is from me, declares YHWH.
