1Behold, the hope of him is proved a lie; shall one not be cast down even at the sight of him?
2None is so fierce that he dares to rouse him; who then is he that can stand before me?
3Who has confronted me first, that I should repay him? Whatever is under all the heavens is mine.
4Concerning him I will not be silent—his limbs, and the matter of his might, and the grace of his frame.
5Who can uncover the face of his garment? Within his double bridle who can come?
6Who can open the doors of his face? Round about his teeth is terror.
7Pride are the rows of his shields, shut up with a close seal.
8One to another they draw near, and spirit (ruach) does not come between them.
9Each man (ish) to his brother they cleave; they grip together and cannot be parted.
10His sneezings flash forth light, and his eyes are like the eyelids of the dawn.
11Out of his mouth go torches; sparks of fire escape.
12Out of his nostrils goes smoke, like a boiling pot and kindled rushes.
13His soul (nephesh) kindles coals, and a flame goes out from his mouth.
14In his neck lodges strength, and before him dismay dances.
15The folds of his flesh (basar) cleave together; they are firm upon him, they cannot be moved.
16His heart is firm like a stone, and firm like the lower millstone.
17When he lifts himself up, the mighty are afraid; from the breakings they are beside themselves.
18If a sword overtakes him, it does not avail; nor the spear, the dart, nor the javelin.
19He counts iron as straw, bronze as rotten wood.
20The son of the bow does not make him flee; sling-stones are turned to stubble for him.
21A club is counted as stubble, and he laughs at the rattling of a javelin.
22Beneath him are sharp potsherds; he spreads a threshing-sledge upon the mire.
23He makes the deep boil like a pot; he makes the sea like a pot of ointment.
24After him he makes a path shine; one would think the deep to be gray-headed.
25Upon the dust (aphar) there is none like him, the one made without fear.
26Everything high he beholds; he is king over all the sons of pride.
