1And on the twenty-fourth day of this month the sons of Israel were gathered with fasting, and in sackcloth, and with ground (adamah) upon them.
2And the seed of Israel separated themselves from all the sons of the stranger; and they stood and confessed over their sins, and the iniquities of their fathers.
3And they rose up upon their place, and read in the book of the Torah of YHWH their God a fourth of the day; and a fourth they were confessing and prostrating themselves to YHWH their God.
4And there stood up upon the platform of the Levites, Yeshua, and Bani, Kadmiel, Shebaniah, Bunni, Sherebiah, Bani, Chenani; and they cried with a great voice to YHWH their God.
5And the Levites said — Yeshua, and Kadmiel, Bani, Hashabneiah, Sherebiah, Hodiah, Shebaniah, Pethahiah — "Rise, bless YHWH your God from everlasting to everlasting; and let them bless the name of Your glory, which is exalted above all blessing and praise."
6You are He, YHWH, You alone; You made the heavens, the heaven of heavens, and all their host, the earth and all that is upon it, the seas and all that is in them; and You give life to all of them; and the host of the heavens are prostrating themselves to You.
7You are He, YHWH the God, who chose Abram, and brought him out from Ur of the Chaldees, and set his name Abraham.
8And You found his heart faithful before You, and cut with him the covenant (berit) to give the land of the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Amorite, and the Perizzite, and the Jebusite, and the Girgashite — to give it to his seed; and You established Your words, for You are righteous.
9And You saw the affliction of our fathers in Egypt, and their cry You heard by the Sea of Reeds.
10And You gave signs (ot) and wonders (mofet) against Pharaoh, and against all his servants, and against all the people of his land; for You knew that they acted proudly against them; and You made for Yourself a name, as it is this day.
11And the sea You split before them, and they passed through the midst of the sea on the dry land; and their pursuers You cast into the depths, like a stone into the mighty waters.
12And in a pillar of cloud You led them by day, and in a pillar of fire by night, to give them light in the way in which they should go.
13And upon mount Sinai You came down, and spoke with them from the heavens, and gave them upright judgments (mishpatim) and Torah of truth, good statutes (chuqqim) and commandments (mitzvot).
14And Your holy Shabbat You made known to them, and commandments (mitzvot) and statutes (chuqqim) and a Torah You commanded (tzivvah) them by the hand of Moses Your servant.
15And bread from the heavens You gave them for their hunger, and water from a rock You brought out for them for their thirst; and You said to them to go in to possess the land which You had lifted up Your hand to give to them.
16And they and our fathers acted proudly, and hardened their neck, and did not listen to Your commandments (mitzvot).
17And they refused to listen, and did not remember Your wonders which You did with them; but they hardened their neck, and appointed a head to return to their bondage in their rebellion. But You are a God of forgivenesses, gracious and compassionate, slow to anger, and abundant in lovingkindness, and You did not forsake them.
18Even when they made for themselves a molten calf, and said, "This is your God who brought you up from Egypt," and they did great blasphemies;
19Yet You, in Your abundant compassions, did not forsake them in the wilderness; the pillar of cloud did not turn aside from over them by day, to lead them in the way, and the pillar of fire by night, to give them light, and the way in which they should go.
20And Your good spirit (ruach) You gave to give them insight, and Your manna You did not withhold from their mouth, and water You gave them for their thirst.
21And forty years You sustained them in the wilderness; they lacked nothing; their garments did not wear out, and their feet did not swell.
22And You gave them kingdoms and peoples, and You apportioned them to a corner; and they possessed the land of Sihon, and the land of the king of Heshbon, and the land of Og king of Bashan.
23And their sons You multiplied as the stars of the heavens, and You brought them to the land which You said to their fathers to go in to possess.
24And the sons came in and possessed the land, and You subdued before them the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites, and gave them into their hand, with their kings and the peoples of the land, to do with them according to their will.
25And they captured fortified cities, and a fat ground (adamah), and possessed houses full of all good things, hewn cisterns, vineyards and olive trees, and fruit trees in abundance; and they ate, and were satisfied, and grew fat, and delighted themselves in Your great goodness.
26And they were rebellious, and rebelled against You, and cast Your Torah behind their back, and they killed Your prophets who testified against them to bring them back to You; and they did great blasphemies.
27And You gave them into the hand of their adversaries, and they distressed them; and in the time of their distress they cried to You, and You from the heavens heard, and according to Your abundant compassions You gave them saviors, and they saved (yasha) them from the hand of their adversaries.
28And when they had rest, they returned to do evil before You, and You forsook them into the hand of their enemies, and they ruled over them; and they returned and cried to You, and You from the heavens heard, and delivered them according to Your compassions many times.
29And You testified against them to bring them back to Your Torah; but they acted proudly, and did not listen to Your commandments (mitzvot), and against Your judgments (mishpatim) they sinned — which if a man (adam) does, he shall live by them — and they gave a stubborn shoulder, and hardened their neck, and did not listen.
30And You extended over them many years, and testified against them by Your spirit (ruach) by the hand of Your prophets; but they did not give ear; and You gave them into the hand of the peoples of the lands.
31And in Your abundant compassions You did not make a full end of them, and did not forsake them; for You are a gracious and compassionate God.
32And now, our God — the great, the mighty, and the awesome God, who keeps the covenant (berit) and the lovingkindness — let not all the hardship seem little before You, which has found us, our kings, our princes, and our priests, and our prophets, and our fathers, and all Your people, from the days of the kings of Assyria until this day.
33And You are righteous over all that has come upon us; for You have acted in truth, and we have acted wickedly.
34And our kings, our princes, our priests, and our fathers have not done Your Torah, and have not listened to Your commandments (mitzvot) and Your testimonies (edot) which You testified against them.
35And they, in their kingdom, and in Your great goodness which You gave them, and in the broad and fat land which You set before them, did not serve (avad) You, and did not turn from their evil deeds.
36Behold, we are servants this day; and the land which You gave to our fathers to eat its fruit and its good — behold, we are servants upon it.
37And its increase abounds to the kings whom You have set over us because of our sins; and over our bodies they rule, and over our cattle, according to their will; and we are in great distress.
