To the leader, a Maskil of the sons of Korah.
As the deer pants over the channels of water, so my soul (nephesh) pants for you, O God.
My soul (nephesh) thirsts for God, for the living (chai) God; when shall I come and appear before the face of God?
My tears have been my bread day and night, while they say to me all the day, "Where is your God?"
These things I remember, and I pour out my soul (nephesh) within me; for I would pass on in the throng, I would lead them slowly to the house of God, with the voice of glad song and thanksgiving, a multitude keeping festival.
Why are you cast down, my soul (nephesh), and why do you moan within me? Hope in God, for I shall yet praise him—the salvation (yeshuah) of his face.
My God, my soul (nephesh) is cast down within me; therefore I remember you from the land of Jordan, and the Hermons, from the mountain of Mizar.
Deep to deep calls at the voice of your waterfalls; all your breakers and your waves have passed over me.
By day YHWH commands (tzivvah) his lovingkindness, and in the night his song is with me, a prayer to the God of my life (chai).
I will say to God my rock, "Why have you forgotten me? Why do I go mourning under the oppression of the enemy?"
As a crushing in my bones, my adversaries taunt me, while they say to me all the day, "Where is your God?"
Why are you cast down, my soul (nephesh), and why do you moan within me? Hope in God, for I shall yet praise him—the salvation (yeshuah) of my face, and my God.
