Before you read — the order of salvation and commandment
Every verse is quoted in full from the Yeshua Literal Version. The quotations are not typed by hand — they are filled in by machine, so nothing is shortened or left out. Whole sentences of Greek and Hebrew are not printed; instead each verse carries only the words the argument rests on, always all three together: the original word · its transliteration · its meaning. The original word is given in its dictionary form.
Verse numbers in Daniel 6 and in the Psalms are given as in most English Bibles, with the Masoretic number the YLV follows beside them in parentheses. In Daniel 6 the Masoretic text runs one verse ahead.
Exodus 20:2 · YLVI am YHWH your God, who brought you out from the land of Egypt, from the house of servants.
Key wordsיָצָא yatsa to bring outעֶבֶד ebed servantאֱלֹהִים elohim God, gods
God first delivered Israel by the blood of the lamb, and only then gave the commandments at Mount Sinai. The Ten Commandments begin with "who brought you out," and "you shall not" comes after that.

| Exodus 12:13 | And the blood shall be for you for a sign (ot) on the houses where you are; and I will see the blood and will pass over you, and there shall be no plague upon you to destroy when I strike the land of Egypt. | דָּם dam(blood) · פָּסחַ pasach(to pass over) |
Ephesians 2:8-10 · YLV(8) For by charis(grace) you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the dorea(free-gift) of God; (9) not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. (10) For we are His workmanship, created in Messiah(Christ) Yeshua(Jesus) for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.

Galatians 5:4 · YLVYou have been severed from Messiah(Christ), you who are seeking to be justified by nomos(law); you have fallen from charis(grace).

Paul says two things together in the same chapter (Romans 3). Being made righteous is by faith (3:28), and that faith upholds the law (3:31). What Scripture rebukes is not keeping the law but seeking "to be made righteous" in the law (Galatians 5:4).

Key wordsκαιρός kairos appointed timeμετανοέω metanoeo to change the mind, repentεὐαγγέλιον euangelion gospel, good newsπιστεύω pisteuo to believe
The name of the gospel Yeshua preached is "the gospel of the basileia (kingdom)."
Matthew 4:23 · YLVAnd Yeshua(Jesus) was going throughout all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and every sickness among the people.
Key wordsεὐαγγέλιον euangelion gospel, good newsβασιλεία basileia kingdom, the king's ruleκηρύσσω kerysso to proclaim

After the resurrection, and in the preaching of the apostles, the first word is the same. With repentance the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed, and repentance is followed by fruit and by deeds.
Luke 24:47 · YLVand that metanoia(repentance, spiritual domain) for forgiveness of sins would be proclaimed in His name to all the ethne(nations), beginning from Jerusalem.

2What is sin, and what kind of law is God's law?
1 John 3:4 · YLVEveryone who practices sin also practices anomia(Torah-lessness); sin is anomia(Torah-lessness).
Key wordsἁμαρτία hamartia sinἀνομία anomia lawlessness, Torah-lessness
Anomia (ἀνομία) is a- (without) joined to nomos (law): lawlessness, Torah-lessness.
Romans 3:20 · YLVBecause by works of nomos(law) no sarx(flesh) will be justified before Him, for through nomos(law) comes epignosis(spiritual, complete knowledge) of sin.
Key wordsνόμος nomos lawδικαιόω dikaioo to make righteous, justifyἐπίγνωσις epignosis full knowledgeἁμαρτία hamartia sin
Romans 7:7 · YLVWhat then shall we say? Is the nomos(law) sin? May it never be! On the contrary, I would not have come to know sin except through nomos(law); for I would not have known epithymia(lust, desire, strong craving) if the nomos(law) had not said, "You shall not have epithymia(lust, desire, strong craving)."
Key wordsνόμος nomos lawἁμαρτία hamartia sinγινώσκω ginosko to knowἐπιθυμέω epithymeo to covet
The law cannot make a person righteous. The law gives the knowledge of what sin is. One and the same verse (Romans 3:20) says both.
Romans 7:12 · YLVSo then, the nomos(law) is holy, and the commandment is holy and righteous and good.

3Two laws — Daniel 6
An explanation that reads Daniel 6 backwards
There is an explanation that runs: "The decree of King Darius could not be changed, and Daniel, failing to keep it, was thrown into the lions' den. God's law cannot be changed either, so we who failed to keep it were thrown to Satan as his prey." This explanation puts the decree of Darius in the place of God's law, and Daniel in the place of a sinner who broke the law. The text says the opposite.
What the text says
Daniel 6:4 (Masoretic 6:5) · YLVThen the presidents and the satraps sought to find occasion against Daniel concerning the kingdom; but no occasion or corruption could they find, inasmuch as he was faithful, and no error or corruption was found against him.
Key wordsשְׁחַת shechath fault, corruptionאֲמַן aman to trust, be faithfulעִלָּה illah pretext, ground for accusation
Daniel 6:5 (Masoretic 6:6) · YLVThen these men said, "We shall not find against this Daniel any occasion, except we find it against him in the decree (dat) of his God."
Key wordsדָּת dath law, decreeאֱלָהּ elahh God, godעִלָּה illah pretext, ground for accusation
From the start the decree was designed with "the law of his God" as its target.
Daniel 6:7 (Masoretic 6:8) · YLVAll the presidents of the kingdom, the prefects and the satraps, the counselors and the governors, have consulted together to establish a royal statute, and to make strong an interdict, that whoever shall ask a petition of any god or man for thirty days, except of you, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions.
Key wordsבְּעָא bea to ask, prayאֱלָהּ elahh God, godגֹּב gob denאַריֵה aryeh lion
This decree is a law that sets a man in the place of God. It goes directly against "You shall have no other gods before Me."
| Verse | YLV | Note |
|---|
| Exodus 20:3 | You shall have no other gods before My face. | אַחֵר acher(other) · אֱלֹהִים elohim(God, gods) |
Daniel 6:10 (Masoretic 6:11) · YLVAnd Daniel, when he knew that the writing was signed, went into his house; now his windows were open in his upper chamber toward Jerusalem; and three times in the day he knelt upon his knees, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, just as he had done before this.
Key wordsיְדַע yeda to knowבְּרַךְ berak to kneelצְלָא tsela to prayיְדָא yeda to give thanks
Daniel knew. He did not break the decree out of ignorance or weakness.
Daniel 6:22 (Masoretic 6:23) · YLVMy God has sent His angel, and shut the lions' mouths, and they have not hurt me; inasmuch as before Him innocence was found in me; and also before you, O king, I have done no hurt."
Key wordsזָכוּ zaku innocence, purityמַלאַךְ malak angelסְגַר segar to shut
Daniel 6:23 (Masoretic 6:24) · YLVThen the king was exceedingly glad over him, and commanded to bring Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was brought up out of the den, and no manner of hurt was found on him, because he had trusted in his God.
Key wordsאֲמַן aman to trust, be faithfulחֲבַל chabal hurt, damageנְסַק nesaq to take up
The text gives the reason Daniel was delivered: "because he believed in his God." Hebrews too records the stopping of the lions' mouths as something done "through faith." Daniel is a man who, by faith, remained in God's law.
| Verse | YLV | Note |
|---|
| Hebrews 11:33 | who through faith conquered kingdoms, worked dikaiosyne(righteousness), obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, | πίστις pistis(faith) · φράσσω phrasso(to stop, shut) · λέων leon(lion) |
Daniel 6:24 (Masoretic 6:25) · YLVAnd the king commanded, and they brought those men who had eaten the pieces of Daniel, and they cast them into the den of lions, them, their children, and their wives; and they had not reached the bottom of the den when the lions overpowered them, and crushed all their bones.
Key wordsאֲכַל akal to eatקְרַץ qerats piece — "to eat the pieces of" is to slander and accuseרְמָה remah to throw
The phrase for those who had accused Daniel is, in Aramaic, akhalu qartsohi — literally, as the YLV renders it, they "had eaten the pieces of" him. The Greek Daniel (Theodotion) translates this with diaballo (διαβάλλω, to slander and accuse), and diabolos (διάβολος) is the noun formed from that verb.
| God's Torah | The decree of Darius |
|---|
| Character | Holy and righteous and good (Rom 7:12) | An evil law of the world that goes against the Torah (Dan 6:5 · 6:7) |
| Whom it condemns | The transgressor (Deut 27:26) | The righteous (Dan 6:4 · 6:22) |
| Nature of the verdict | A righteous judgment | An unjust judgment brought about by conspiracy |

The accusers are thrown down — the judgment of Babylon and the lake of fire
That the one who sought to kill the righteous is thrown into that very place is a principle of justice in the Torah. To the false witness it shall be done as he schemed to do to his brother; the righteous is delivered out of trouble, and the wicked goes in there in his place. Revelation shows this principle carried out to the end.

The expression "the curse of the law" occurs in only one place in all of Scripture — Galatians 3:13.

The object of the curse is not the law but the one who does not remain in the law. The decree of Darius is an unjust sentence passed by an evil law on a righteous man; "the curse of the law" is the just sentence a righteous law passes on the transgressor.
The way out of the curse is not by keeping the law but by redemption
The curse pronounced on a sin already committed is not removed by keeping the law afterward. It is removed because Messiah paid the price and redeemed us. Galatians makes this plain in the same passage.
Galatians 3:11 · YLVNow that no one is justified by nomos(law) before God is evident; for, "The righteous man shall live by faith."

Stumbling while walking, and remaining in sin
Scripture treats the stumbling of a person who has broken with sin and is walking, and a life that remains in sin, as two different things.

In Daniel 6 the righteous man did not yield to the evil law but remained in God's law (Daniel 6:10), innocence was found in him (Daniel 6:22), and the accusers were thrown down (Daniel 6:24). In Revelation those who keep the commandments of God (Revelation 12:17 · 14:12) overcome by the blood of the Lamb (Revelation 12:11), and the accuser is thrown down (Revelation 12:10 · 20:10).
