16th of Aviv

Leviticus 23:9~14

Whoever believes in the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ as a true historical event, their faith is the evidence of their spiritual resurrection.

וַהֲבֵאתֶ֥ם־אֶת עֹ֛מֶר רֵאשִׁ֥ית קְצִירְכֶ֖ם אֶל־הַכֹּהֵֽן

Leviticus 23:10

[and.you-bring]  [sheaf-of]  [first(it means beginning)]  [harvest-of-you]  [to the.priest]

~ you shall bring the sheaf of the firstfruits(X) FIRST(O) of your harvest to the priest,

Leviticus 23:9 teaches us that believing in the Resurrection of Yeshua Messiah, Jesus Christ, is a commandment from the LORD.

Aviv vs. Nisan

The Lord designated 'Aviv' as the name of the first month for the chosen people to use (Exodus 13:4). However, the name 'Nisan' was used only in reference to a Gentile kings (Nehemiah 2:1, Esther 3:7). Therefore, the name of the month 'Nisan' is not for the chosen people to use.

Bring "Omer Reshit" of your harvest to the Priest

This Moed symbolizes the onset of the Great Commission. Jesus, the High Priest in the Holy of Holies in the heavenly tabernacle, instructed the Ecclesia to bring the lost ones to Him, so that anyone accepting Him becomes a newly born member of the Ecclesia, the body of Jesus Christ.

This is the day of the Resurrection, extending an invitation to all people to accept the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.

For a spiritual newborn to live a life enriched by the Holy Spirit, they require the support of fellow members. This is akin to the first harvest of grain, left unthreshed and bundled in sheaves. Such support includes fellowship, Bible study, and worship. Above all, the most crucial aspect is to lead people to Jesus and ensure they abide in Him.

For the 16th of Aviv to be designated as the day of offering the first sheaf, two precise conditions must be met. The first condition is that the 49th daily counting from the 16th of Aviv, must coincide with the 7th day Sabbath. The second condition is quite simple: for the first condition to be fulfilled, the 16th of Aviv must fall on the day after the 7th day Sabbath. This not only marks the year when the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ actually occurred but also confirms the specificity of the prophecy in the Hebrew Old Testament. It was not an annual prediction but a prophecy about the specific year when these events would unfold—the year that begins the Festival of Unleavened Bread on Passover, a singular event in human history.

The fact that Jesus resurrected on the 16th of Aviv is a profound biblical truth. This day is known as the day of offering the first sheaf of the harvest. During this ceremony, the first harvested sheaves, still unthreshed and wrapped in their coarse husks, are waved before God. This act represents each kernel collectively bound, being lifted to the heavens. This ritual symbolizes the immediate spiritual resurrection one receives upon accepting the crucifixion of Jesus. The Gospel of the Cross is both simple and light. When an individual's spirit is dormant, it equates to spiritual death. However, when these dormant spirits awaken to accept and believe in Jesus Christ, it signifies the Resurrection brought by the Cross. This is the Good News as articulated in Matthew 11:28-30.

This journey also marks the mandatory spiritual path from that moment to Pentecost, during which believers count the Omer daily until the 49th day, culminating in the celebration on the 50th day. Believing in the Gospel of Jesus' crucifixion signifies that an individual's spirit is resurrected. Nonetheless, diligent effort is required to be filled with the Holy Spirit and to bear its fruits.

What happened after Jesus Christ's atonement on the cross? He resurrected after three days and nights of death. This resurrection, which occurred before His Ascension, is pivotal. It's important to remember that the first sheaf of the harvested barley includes the chaff. In other words, even if a dormant spirit awakens and is reborn, a complete and eternal resurrection must be attained with fear and trembling.

One of the amazing blessings of meditating on the Hebrew Scriptures is gaining an accurate understanding of this crucifixion and resurrection. It also leads to a proper understanding of the Kingdom Gospel preached by Jesus. Consider these three biblical passages and, in conjunction with this meditation, discern and distinguish the corrupt and chaotic aspects of the Corinthian church as depicted in Corinthians:

Psalm 1:4 'The wicked are not so, but are like chaff (מֹץ, mots) that the wind drives away.'

Hosea 13:3 'Therefore they will be like the morning cloud, and like dew that passes away early, like chaff (מֹץ, mots) swirling from the threshing floor, or like smoke from a chimney.'

Matthew 3:12 'His winnowing fork is in His hand, and He will clear His threshing floor, gathering His wheat into the barn and burning up the chaff (αχυρον, achuron) with unquenchable fire.'

Matthew 13:40 'Just as the weeds (ζιζανια, zizanion, darnel) are gathered and burned with fire, so will it be at the end of the age.'

*Darnel (ζιζανια): an annual grass in the cereal family, about 80cm tall, with linear leaves. It resembles barley but contains toxic alkaloids in its seeds.
