First Day, The Passover Sacrificed

Matthew 26:17 And on the first day of the unleavened bread, the disciples came to Jesus, saying, "Where do you desire we should prepare for You to eat the Passover?"

Mark 14:12 And on the first day of unleavened bread, when they were to sacrifice the Passover lamb, His disciples say to Him, "Where do You desire that, having gone, we should prepare that You may eat the Passover?"

Luke 22:7 And the day of Unleavened Bread came, on which it was necessary for the Passover lamb to be sacrificed.

Understanding the Timing of Passover in the Gospels

Matthew 26:17, Mark 14:12, and Luke 22:7: These Gospels indicate that the day to kill the Passover lamb had already arrived. This is because the daytime of Aviv 12th and the evening of Aviv 13th are considered the same day. Daily life consisted of waking up in the morning, having a day, then evening, followed by night, and sleep. Thus, people knew that when they woke up in the morning, they would encounter the first day of the feast to kill the Passover lamb later that same day.

Here, the term "first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread" refers to the first stage of the sacrifice, which is the preparation day of the Passover. On Aviv 13th, the lamb is killed, then skinned, cut into pieces, and prepared. The sacrifice is then offered on the 14th of Aviv "between the evenings" (during the twilight period). It was a burnt offering to the Lord.

The Koine Greek New Testament, through different perspectives and expressions, sharply and precisely documents this significant Moed (appointed time) with exceptional accuracy.
